The Integration Failure Points Most Teams Don't Plan For

Happy-path integrations are the easy part
Connecting two systems under ideal conditions is usually straightforward. The harder, often-skipped work is deciding what happens when a request times out, a third-party API changes its response shape, or a webhook arrives twice.
Failure points worth designing for up front
Rate limits that throttle requests during peak usage. Partial failures where some records succeed and others don't. Duplicate events from retried webhooks. Authentication tokens that expire mid-process. Third-party outages that shouldn't take down your entire workflow.
Build for visibility, not just functionality
A reliable integration tells you when something goes wrong instead of failing silently. That usually means structured logging, alerting, and a clear retry or escalation path built in from the start.
